Bedside Desk

When you think of a desk you usually think of an office, maybe even a small kitchen desk but a bedroom desk?

Since I've been working on our master lately I've been putting a lot of thought into what I'd want as our nightstands or side tables.  One trend I've been seeing a ton on Pinterest lately are bedroom desks as nightstands/side tables.

Built in bunkbeds are a favorite look of mine right now but so is this built in desk look...

This is quite a romantic desk/vanity set up, love the vintage glass bottles...

Love these nesting desks, especially since it's on wheels...

Seeing red is more like green with envy about this desk with the combo of bamboo, chrome, and teal.

Talk about neutrals... black/grey/tan with pops of pink and chrome.

Normally a wasted space... not so much in this room...

Ok, so this isn't quite a desk to the side or in front of the bed but I LOVE this thing! How cool!? Pull it close or push it away.... This could really come in handy those mornings when I cant get out of bed but need to work. Or even for more practical things like eating in bed... ;)

 

I saw this on pinterest a while ago and it's always stuck in my head, a perfect boys room...

I love this rectangular skirted table, I've also seen these a little less cluttered and used as desk.  I love this look and I'd definitely make some hidden storage underneath.

There you have it, consider this my argument (with myself) for a bedside desk.  I failed to mention that the wall our bed sits on is quite wide, even with a king.  So most nightstands are too small and look dinky, plus they leave a ton of unused space to the side.

I would use mine as as a desk, especially in the morning when I'm getting ready but doing emails for work.  However, it could also double as a vanity if it had a mirror above it.  The french arm chair I found curbside a couple weeks ago would also be a great companion.

I think this might be the perfect solution, what do you think?

June Craigslist Finds

The other day my friend Garman picked up a perfect pair of Seagrass chairs from a woman in Buckhead off of Craigslist.

It got me thinking that I've been so busy lately I haven't had time to peruse craigslist while falling asleep like I used to.

After about 15 minutes I easily came up with a ton of great items, today's post is brought to you by the letter "C" for chairs and cane.

I know you might first have looked at this chrome and cane chair and thought "WTH?" but look how the fabulous Milk and Honey bloggers styled theirs:

This picture is grainy but I think that this bamboo and cane chair could be awesome, especially as a desk chair.  A girly desk that is... please don't do this at a manly office desk...  I'm think more of a glammy desk that is probably more for looks than functionality :) like the ones you see on pinterest.

I'd paint it a lacquered white with this preppy Waverly lattice fabric:

Or I'd paint it a lacquered black and reupholster it with a fresh green print like this Primitive Trellis design:

The next chair I found is so yummy and only $65 too! I'm not positive what style this technically is but I'd call it "French Regency".  I'm almost 100% sure this isn't the accurate term but it looks like a combo of a french chair combined with a hollywood regency vibe.

You could repaint this however or leave it grey but it'd be great with some new upholstery.  I might even do 2 different fabrics, especially on the backside.

Ok, this one is not a cheap find at $2500 BUT I've been seeing a lot of these Bamboo Chippendale chairs on blogs and such, very hollywood regency.  I'd personally update the table to make the whole set a little more funky and fresh.  

While we are on the subject of bamboo I found this little lovey for $350 and it's a nice size!

If you hadn't had enough cane and chrome, here's a little more.  Very 60's, I keep imagining them with a fluffy white rug underneath.

This seller has quite a collection of chairs, the outside 2 french arm chairs have it going on... It's hard to tell but these chairs look like the frame is black and the reupholstering possibilities are endlessss...

 This picture is a little like where's waldo but between all of that white wicker you'll see a green tufted bench sitting pretty to the left.  Benches can really go about anywhere in a house but I might still this one at the foot of a bed.

That's about all I found until my eyelids started to fail on me, computer closed, and off to dream of cheap furniture thrills...

Fun Fabrics

Monday morning was quite dreary in ATL but hopefully this post will brighten you up!

While I was away at the beach I placed an order for some Schumacher fabrics from Inside Fabric.

I received a package Friday afternoon from Mr. UPS and was pleasantly surprised to find these nicely sized samples....

I'm so used to getting scrappy dollar size samples in the mail (even when you pay for the samples) that I was quite pleased with these.

The mail package they came in was addressed from Schumacher so I'm not sure who to give credit to but either way I plan to definitely do some business with both Schumacher and Inside Fabric!

Seriously though, aren't these fabrics fabulous?

Summatime

Every summer we kick off with an annual trip to the beach in Florida.  This year was no different  except I made a pit stop for a few days in Chicago beforehand. 

I landed in Chicago the morning of the NATO conference which kept things interesting in the windy city (and kept my mother freaking out about safety).

In all seriousness though, it was kinda surreal/creepy to see herds of cops standing around on each corner. Not to mention the police sirens and motorcades whizzing by you day and night for 48 hours.  My building is next to where the NATO meetings were taking place and when I went to lunch on Monday there were tons of secret service and bomb squad dogs everywhere.

This craziness didn't stop me, I still got in some beloved shopping time (TOPSHOP!) and good food.  I stayed at the Dana hotel which was awesome and my views were unreal, I even had a balcony to my room.

After a quick trip I was whirled away to the fine Panama City Beach Airport and off to Seaside, Florida!

Talk about stark contrast... my in-laws finally moved into their new beach home in May and we were so excited to finally stay here. 

Our house sits on the most perfect piece of property in all of Highway 30-A.  To the left is Ryan's grandparent's beach house and to the right of us is a state park so no one can ever build there.  I wish I had more pictures inside the house because the views are panoramic and unbelievable.  Our family is so blessed to have this as a home for generations and years to come.

Mom and dad were down here in Rosemary Beach celebrating 32 years of marriage.

Even got to visit our friends/neighbors who were right down the beach... isn't this Fedora (and kid) too cute? Only $8 at Target too! I might need to get one and save it for my child. 

 

Ryan's family are swingers... haha... ok maybe not in that sense, but they love a good swing on a porch, we have 1 on every floor .  So we did a lot of swinging...

  

We met for dinner at The Great Southern Cafe in Seaside with both our families, I highly recommend this place, the food is so good! As are the mojitos :)

The last night we ended with a bang, family dinner and then some hangout time with our cousin Robert and Ryan's sister and her husband in down in Seaside. 

 

I always take a picture next to the flagpole in the Seaside Circle, it's customary... and I always salute.

We stopped by our friend's new restaurant The Local Ketch for a drink then headed to the tried and true, Bud 'N Alleys...
